Why PTE

Why choose the PTE Academic exam?

The PTE Academic test is one of the most widely recognised English proficiency tests globally. Trusted by universities, professional organisations and immigration authorities, it is the go-to option for Australian skilled migration, UK Student Visa and university admissions worldwide.

Key advantage: PTE is 100% AI-scored — results arrive within 1–5 days with no human marking variability. For EOI submissions and visa lodgements on tight timelines, this speed is a decisive advantage over IELTS (3–13 days).

Results can be sent directly to immigration authorities and universities from your Pearson account — no physical sending required.

Step-by-step guide

How to book your PTE test online

Booking your PTE Academic exam is done entirely through the official Pearson portal. The process takes around 10–15 minutes from start to confirmation.

1
Step 01
Create a Pearson account
Visit pearsonpte.com and click "Create Account." Fill in your personal details using the exact same name that appears on your passport. Store your credentials — you will use them to access results later.
2
Step 02
Choose your test type
Once logged in, select "Book PTE Academic." You will be asked about your destination country and purpose — Study, Work, Migrate or Join family. If applying for a UK Student Visa, select the UKVI version — it is a separate test with different fees.
3
Step 03
Select your preferred test centre
Enter your preferred city to browse available centres and upcoming dates. Review multiple centres before confirming — different locations may have different availability on your preferred dates.
💡 Book 3–4 weeks ahead in Sydney and Melbourne — these centres fill quickly, especially during January–February and July (university semester starts).
4
Step 04
Pick a test date and time
Review available calendar slots for your chosen centre. Confirm carefully — rescheduling fees apply if you change within 14 days of the test date.
5
Step 05
Enter your identification details
Enter your passport details exactly as they appear on the document. Your ID name must match your registration name character-for-character. Even a single character difference can result in denial of entry on exam day.
6
Step 06
Complete payment
PTE Academic fees in Australia typically range between AUD $395–$435 depending on your location. Payment is made securely through the Pearson online portal by credit or debit card.
Step 07 — Done
Receive your booking confirmation
After payment you receive a confirmation email containing your test centre address, date and time, and registration number. Save or print this — you will need it on exam day alongside your passport.

Key tips

Tips for a smooth booking and exam day

📅 Booking tips
Plan ahead. Book 3–4 weeks in advance in Melbourne and Sydney. Last-minute slots exist but prime times fill quickly.
Double-check your name. Your passport name and registration name must match exactly — one character difference can mean denial of entry.
Avoid peak seasons. January–February and July see the highest demand across all Australian centres.
Rescheduling. Changes more than 14 days before test are free. Within 14 days, fees apply.
📚 Preparation tips
Take full mock tests. MockMaster AI-scores all 20 PTE task types — see exactly where you lose marks before the real exam.
Know the format. ~3 hours: Speaking & Writing (54–67 min), Reading (29–30 min), Listening (30–43 min).
Focus on Read Aloud. It contributes to both Speaking and Reading scores — the highest-value single task in the exam.
Arrive early. Bring your passport and confirmation email. Review directions to the centre the night before.
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I book my PTE test in Australia? +
Booking is done entirely online at pearsonpte.com. Create an account, select PTE Academic, choose your city, pick a date, enter your passport details and complete payment. The process takes around 10–15 minutes.
Can I choose my PTE test date and location? +
Yes — you choose both your preferred test centre and date from whatever is currently available. High-demand cities like Melbourne and Sydney fill up weeks in advance. Smaller cities like Hobart and Canberra typically have more flexibility but limited sessions.
How far in advance should I book? +
We recommend at least 2–3 weeks in advance. For Melbourne and Sydney, 3–4 weeks is safer. During peak periods (January–February, July), book even earlier. Last-minute bookings (24 hours ahead) are technically possible but availability is limited.
What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy? +
You can reschedule or cancel up to 14 days before your test date for a full refund or free reschedule. Changes within 14 days may incur a fee. If you miss your test date without rescheduling, you will generally forfeit your exam fee. Always review the latest policy at pearsonpte.com.
What identification is required on exam day? +
A valid, government-issued passport is required. The name on your passport must match exactly what you entered during online booking. Bring both your passport and the booking confirmation email to the test centre.
How quickly do PTE results come out? +
Most candidates receive their PTE Academic results within 1–5 business days after the exam. You receive an email when scores are ready. Results can be accessed online and sent directly to institutions and immigration authorities from your Pearson account.
What PTE score do I need for Australian PR? +
50 in each skill = Competent English (6 immigration points). 65 in each skill = Proficient English (10 points). 79 in each skill = Superior English (20 points). All four skills must independently meet the threshold — a high overall cannot compensate for one low skill.
Are there discounts available for PTE booking? +
Occasionally Pearson and local centres run special promotions. Check with your specific test centre in Melbourne, Sydney or Perth for any available offers. MockMaster's Pro plan also includes a score guarantee — if you don't hit your target after completing the programme, we extend your subscription for free.
